Daniela Papi is one of the founders of The PEPY Ride. She became interested in teaching via bicycle in 2005 when she joined BEE Japan, an environmental education bike ride program across Japan. She found that living off of a bike with a 360 degree windshield was a great way to see the world, and the reactions she and others received from their lectures and environmental activities was energizing! After her month with BEE, Daniela knew that she had to bring this concept to South East Asia where environmental education is not readily available. She found that health, environment, and education were some of the most pressing problems that Cambodia faces, and so she decided to take action to improve those situations. Working with co-founder Greta Arnquist and other friends on this project has taken over a large part of her days and nights, but soon she realized how the power of a small group of people can change the face of the world. Daniela’s Background Daniela grew up in New York and studied economics at Notre Dame University. She has also been a field hockey coach, nursery school teacher, and ski instructor. But it wasn’t until she went to Japan back in 2004 where she worked as a teacher that she became aware just how teaching can significantly shape a student’s world. As you can see, Daniela decided to “delay the real world” a couple of years ago and is hooked.
From what we can tell, this is now her career. This is what Delaying the Real World is all about. How your adventure can lead you into your ideal job. Daniela is in her late 20’s and doesn’t seem to be planning to use her business degree in a cubicle any time soon! She can’t wait to get on the road to help educate the minds of countless children by building rural Cambodian schools and to award families with bicycles so that their children can ride to the new schools everyday where they can get an education that will last a lifetime. PEPY Ride is always looking for donations and volunteers. Every little penny (or yen!) helps!
